(Saskatoon, SK. – Treaty Six Territory) The Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) today congratulated Premier Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan Party on their re-election, and said that the FSIN looks forward to working with the Premier and his government on a issues that are important to the province and to First Nations.

“Congratulations to Premier Brad Wall and his party on their election victory. In his acceptance speech the Premier spoke about having the opportunity to serve Saskatchewan. In our culture there is no higher honour than to serve the people. We call those who serve, Oskapewesak,” said FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron. “We have a number of issues that need the attention of the Premier. The issues need to be made a priority to keep Saskatchewan strong.”

The FSIN’s list of priorities with the Province of Saskatchewan include several issues relating to the Inherent and Treaty Rights of First Nations people: completion of the Treaty Land Entitlement process, the Treaty Right to hunting, fishing, trapping and gathering, the Treaty Right to health, a new gaming agreement, resource development, housing, continued investment into post-secondary education that will help eradicate poverty.

“We want to congratulate all the women and men who were elected to represent their constituencies as Members of the Legislative Assembly. We wish to send a special congratulation to Yellow Quill First Nation member, Jennifer Campeau on her re-election. Ms. Campeau makes us proud of her accomplishments,” said Chief Cameron. “We also want to congratulate the other Indigenous candidates who participated in the provincial election. It takes courage to put yourself out there and run in an election.”
