The Peepeekisis Cree Nation in Treaty 4 is refusing to sign the new funding agreement with the federal government, noting in a press release that the agreement forces them “to deliver poverty to the citizens of Peepeekisis.”

Instead, the First Nation wants “a two party bilateral process with proper negotiations and consultation,” and says that the federal relationship of 142 years needs to be revisited.

Peepeekisis First Nation is protesting the agreement by holding a peaceful demonstration and rally on Wednesday March 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Highway 10, at the File Hills Bands turn off.
