(Saskatoon, SK) –  The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Executive is encouraging Indigenous people to vote in the April 4, 2016 Provincial Election, and to help voters make an informed choice, FSIN will host a forum with the four political parties. The candidates’ forum will take place on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Galaxy B Room at the Travelodge Hotel, 106 Circle Drive West, Saskatoon, SK.

“Last fall First Nation voters turned out in large numbers to cast their ballots in the Federal Election,” said FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron. “We encourage our leaders and their people to register to vote in the upcoming Provincial Election. We urge them to help others to register and help them vote in advance polls and on Election Day.”

The FSIN sent invitations to the Saskatchewan Party, the New Democratic Party, the Liberal Party and the Green Party to participate in the candidate’s forum.

“We want to thank the political parties that accepted our invitation to take part in the candidates forum,” said Chief Cameron. “We need to know what the party’s positions are on our Indigenous rights. Our position will always be the Implementation and Protection of our Inherent and Treaty Rights. First Nation issues are not only important to First Nation people but to the rest of Saskatchewan. When our people are educated, healthy and productive, the whole province benefits.”

Melody Wood and Belinda Daniels will co-moderate the event. Wood helped organize and mobilize First Nation voters in last fall’s Federal Election with Indigenous Votes Sask. Daniels represented Canada at the recent Global Teacher Prize in Dubai, U.A.E.
