(Muskowekwan First Nation) The stars came out last month to help inspire the children from the Muskowekwan First Nation’s weekly music program.

The founder of the music class, Hugh Poorman, says there was a need in the community for the music lessons.

“A lot of the parents said, ‘why couldn’t we have had this when I was a kid’, says Poorman. “The parents’ reactions are very positive. The community has been very supportive.”

Poorman invited his friends Chester Knight and Erroll Kinistino to come out and jam.

Knight is best known for his Juno award-winning album Falling Down, while Kinistino played the role of Leon in CBC’s television series, North of 60.

Poorman says he wanted to show the kids that dreams can be reached.

“Well by bringing Chester out and Erroll out, that anything is possible,” says Poorman. “The future is more of what we seen tonight on a bigger scale. More community involvement, more children, more lessons, more entertainers and just more of this kind of event, for not only Muskowekwan but for the Treaty 4 area.”
