Police in Prince Albert are investigating a homicide that happened near that city over the weekend.

On Jan 17, 2015 at approximately 2:15 pm, police received a call about a deceased person located on a snowmobile trail 15 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert in the RM of Buckland.  The location is remote and away from major highways. Police attended along with the Office of the Chief Coroner and located an adult aboriginal female who was pronounced dead on scene.

The victim has been identified as  28-year-old Monica Lee Burns from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.  Her death is being treated as a homicide.  An autopsy has been ordered and is scheduled for Tuesday, January 15, 2015.

Also assisting in this investigation are members of the Prince Albert Police Service, the RCMP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) from both Prince Albert and Tisdale along with RCMP Major Crime Unit North from Saskatoon, SK.
